Context in DR Congo
The eastern region of DR Congo has been in armed conflict for decades, with different military groups fighting each other. This has major consequences for children and youth: many are orphaned, exploited or abused. Children and youth go to work to survive, are recruited by military groups or end up in mines. Girls and young women are often victims of sexual exploitation.
KIYO and its partners are present in North and South Kivu.
Our projects
Together with our partner ASCEN, we are investing in training and skills development for youth to strengthen their socio-economic resilience and increase employment opportunities. With our partner ADED, we are helping to make agriculture attractive again as a decent and sustainable source of income for youth. With our former partner, the youth organisation PAE, we used radio programming as a powerful tool to give children and youth a voice and enable them to stand up for themselves and their rights.
